THEME: Think Health, Think Pharmacy.
From November 17 to 23, 2024, Sri Manakula Vinayagar Engineering College (SMVEC) celebration of the 63rd National Pharmacy Week (NPW), organized by the Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA). This year’s theme, “Think Health, Think Pharmacy,” underscored the evolving role of pharmacists in enhancing public health beyond their traditional roles.

The week commenced with a formal inauguration, graced by esteemed dignitaries and faculty members. The ceremony set the tone for the week, highlighting the significance of pharmacists in the healthcare ecosystem and their contributions to community well-being.
Inaugural Ceremony

The celebration commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. M. Dhanalakshmi, Dean of SMVEC Pharmacy College. The event was graced by Dr. E. Anandakrishnan, Licensing cum Drug Controlling Authority of Puducherry, who served as the Chief Guest. In his keynote address, Dr. Anandakrishnan emphasized the crucial role of pharmacists and pharmacies in supporting “Health for All.” He highlighted that universal recognition of the pharmacy profession’s role in primary healthcare can lead to a more effective, efficient, and patient-centered healthcare system.
Green Initiatives

Following the inaugural session, a plantation drive was conducted, where medicinal plants like Ashwagandha were planted within the campus premises. This initiative aimed to promote environmental sustainability and awareness of traditional medicinal plants among students and faculty.
Awareness Rally

To further disseminate the theme’s message, first and second-year B. Pharm students organized an awareness rally. The rally traversed through key areas of Villupuram, aiming to educate the public about the pivotal role of pharmacists in healthcare and the importance of medication adherence.

The 63rd National Pharmacy Week at SMVEC was a testament to the institution’s commitment to advancing the pharmacy profession and promoting public health awareness. Through a series of educational and community-driven activities, the event underscored the indispensable role of pharmacists in achieving universal health coverage.
