Pongal Thiruvizha 2026 was celebrated with great enthusiasm and cultural spirit at Sri Manakula Vinayagar Engineering College (SMVEC). The event beautifully reflected the essence of Tamil tradition, unity, and gratitude.

The celebration began with the traditional preparation of Pongal by students from each department. As part of this custom, students actively participated in cooking Pongal together, following age-old practices. The Pongal was prepared with devotion and joy, symbolizing prosperity and abundance.

When the Pongal boiled over, signifying good fortune, prayers were offered, and everyone joined together to seek blessings. Following the prayers, the prepared Pongal was shared among students and staff, fostering a sense of unity, equality, and togetherness.

Following the Pongal celebrations, a variety of traditional and recreational games were organized for the students to enhance the festive spirit. The events included Tug of War, Uriyadi, Forehead Cup Challenge, Pot Decoration, and Musical Chairs.
Students actively and enthusiastically participated in all the games, showcasing great energy, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Many students joined the events on the spot, making the competitions lively and engaging. The cheerful participation and vibrant atmosphere reflected the true spirit of Pongal celebrations.

Following the energetic performance by the SMV Band, the cultural programme continued with a graceful Welcome Dance presented by the students. The performers captivated the audience with their elegant movements and expressive choreography, extending a warm and traditional welcome to everyone present.
Welcome Address
Following the welcome dance, the Welcome Address was delivered by Dr. S. Jayakumar, Controller of Examinations. In his address, he warmly welcomed the dignitaries, faculty members, staff, and students to the Pongal Thiruvizha 2026. He highlighted the cultural significance of Pongal as a festival that symbolizes gratitude, unity, and prosperity.
Honouring the Esteemed Dignitaries
Following the welcome address, the dignitaries were formally honoured as a mark of respect and gratitude. The institution acknowledged their presence and valuable support in making the Pongal Thiruvizha 2026 a memorable occasion.
Pongal Address
Pongal Address delivered by Shri. M. Dhanasekaran, Founder, Chairman, and Managing Director of SMVET, extended his heartfelt Pongal wishes to all the students, faculty members, and staff. In his address, he highlighted the significance of Samathuva Pongal and emphasized its core values such as equality, brotherhood, and collective living. He encouraged everyone to imbibe these values in their personal as well as professional lives and to uphold harmony, mutual respect, and social responsibility. He further motivated the students to grow as responsible citizens who contribute positively to society while preserving cultural values and traditions.
Mallakhambam Performance
Following the Pongal address, the celebration continued with an energetic and captivating Mallakhambam performance by the students. The traditional art form, which showcases strength, balance, flexibility, and discipline, left the audience spellbound. The performers displayed remarkable agility and precision while executing complex postures with confidence and grace.

Honouring the Mallakhambam Performance Team
Following the impressive Mallakhambam performance, the performing team along with their Founder was invited onto the stage and formally honoured by the management. As a mark of appreciation, they were recognized for their dedication, discipline, and efforts in preserving and promoting this traditional Indian art form.
Traditional Folk Dance Performances
Adding grandeur to the celebrations, the event featured a series of traditional folk dance performances including Mayilattam, Oyilattam, Paraiyattam, and Poikal Kuthirai Attam. These vibrant art forms, deeply rooted in Tamil culture, were performed with great energy, rhythm, and authenticity.
Each performance reflected the rich cultural heritage of Tamil Nadu—Mayilattam with its graceful peacock movements, Oyilattam showcasing synchronized group formations, Paraiyattam resonating with powerful beats, and Poikal Kuthirai Attam captivating the audience with its lively and colorful presentation. The traditional performances received enthusiastic applause and added a strong cultural essence to the celebration, making the event truly unforgettable.
