World Bamboo Day

World Bamboo Day is celebrated on October 9th 2025 to promote the importance of bamboo as a sustainable and eco-friendly resource. The day serves to raise awareness about bamboo’s role in environmental conservation, sustainable urban development, and its contribution to building a greener future. To mark this occasion, Sri Manakula Vinayagar Engineering College organized a seminar on the theme “Innovating with Bamboo: Designing a Sustainable World” on October 9, 2025, at 10:00 AM in the college auditorium. A total of 120 students actively participated and benefited from the session.

The event commenced with a Welcome Address by Dr. S. Sundararaman, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, SMVEC, who spoke about the global significance of World Bamboo Day and the importance of adopting sustainable practices in urban and rural development.

The Chief GuestMr. D. SaravananFounder and Director of Aranya Forest, Villupuram District, Tamil Nadu, delivered an inspiring and informative address on the theme. He highlighted the versatility of bamboo as a renewable resource and its potential applications in construction, furniture design, architecture, and energy production. Mr. Saravanan explained that bamboo not only supports ecological balance by absorbing carbon dioxide and preventing soil erosion but also creates employment opportunities in rural areas.
