About the Department

The Department of Information Technology at SMVEC was established in 1999 with a defined objective of creating eminent technocrats with manifold skillsets. It offers a four-year Bachelor of Technology program in Information Technology; and admits 240 students. The course is accredited by NBA that edges the students in the job market and facilitates higher mobility for study abroad program. Following an autonomous curriculum in line with Outcome based education (OBE), the department fosters equal emphasis on both theoretical and practical aspects of the concepts in the curriculum.
Experienced faculties impart enriched knowledge to students by utilising the facilities including cutting-edge labs, e-learning-enabled classrooms, dedicated departmental library and a fully-equipped seminar hall. Students and faculty members actively participate in professional societies such as IEEE, ISTE to stay updated on industry developments. The department has forged strong partnerships with industry and academic experts, both nationally and internationally. In addition to high-quality education, the department organizes webinars, Faculty Development Programs (FDPs), conferences, symposiums, and workshops at both national and international levels.
Our faculty members have an impressive record of publications, and our motivated students engage in numerous real-time projects annually. Furthermore, it offers international opportunities through student exchange programs, internships, and summer training initiatives. Graduates from our department secure positions as system developers, architects, technical leaders, and managers in various multinational corporations. Ultimately, the Department of Information Technology is committed to continual enhancement and serves as a model for effective technology utilization.

Our department is dedicated to nurturing undergraduate students for successful careers in industry, academia and government sectors. We achieve this by fostering an exceptional teaching, learning, and research environment. In alignment with our academic partners, we strive for the holistic development of our students, catering to the needs of industry, government, and society. Through robust partnerships with industries, government bodies, professional societies, and
local communities, we aim to equip our students with the skills and knowledge to tackle real- world challenges.

Our Department of Information Technology at Sri Manakula Vinayagar Engineering College offers a B.Tech in Information Technology, an M.Tech in Networking, and a Ph.D. in Information Technology, addressing critical aspects of IT infrastructure and cybersecurity solutions.

SMVEC's Department of Information Technology has had excellent placement success, with over 90% of the 2022 batch placed. With top-notch placements, including dual offers the department leads Puducherry regarding placement numbers and the highest salary awarded.

Infrastructure

The Department of Information Technology at SMVEC provides cutting-edge infrastructure to enable innovative teaching approaches. Our environment encourages interactive and technology-enhanced learning, with 12 classrooms equipped with LCDs, Wi-Fi/LAN capabilities, intelligent classrooms with interactive boards, and Learning Management System (LMS) integration. In addition, we offer a specialist seminar hall with ICT technology for conducting academic and professional events.

Department Library

The department library was started during the academic year of 2012-2013. A variety of books related to Information Technology subjects along with basic engineering are available to satisfy the need of the students.
