On 28th July 2025, Sri Manakula Vinayagar Engineering College (SMVEC) proudly observed World Nature Conservation Day 2025 with a compelling and impactful seminar centered on the theme:


Connecting People and Plants: Exploring Digital Innovation in Wildlife Conservation.

The event served as a vibrant platform for awareness, discussion, and innovation, uniting students, faculty, environmentalists, and academic leaders to address pressing ecological issues and emerging solutions.

A Symbolic Beginning: Lamp-Lighting Ceremony


The seminar commenced with the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp, a moment that signified the dispelling of darkness and the ushering in of knowledge, wisdom, and hope. The glowing lamp stood as a symbol of enlightenment and unity, echoing the seminar’s core message of connecting people and nature through awareness and innovation.

Warm Welcome address


Following the traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, the event officially commenced with a welcome address delivered by Dr. S. Jayakumar, Controller of Examinations and Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering. In his address, He warmly welcomed the Chief Guest, Dr. M. Bubesh Guptha, and faculty members, dignitaries, and enthusiastic students. He emphasized the importance of observing World Nature Conservation Day, especially in the context of a rapidly evolving world were environmental challenges demand innovative and collaborative solutions. He highlighted the seminar’s theme—Connecting People and Plants: Exploring Digital Innovation in Wildlife Conservation”—as not only timely but vital for shaping environmentally responsible citizens and professionals.

Honoring the Chief Guest


The Organizing team was honoured to host Dr. M. Bubesh Guptha, Founder & Director of the Universal Eco Foundation, as the Chief Guest. Renowned for his dedication to wildlife protection and ecological restoration, He brought a wealth of experience and inspiration to the event.

Strengthening Tradition Through Technology:


In His session he emphasized that connecting with nature through technology isn’t about replacing traditional practices—it’s about strengthening them. We need innovation, education, and compassion working together. And also, he explained about,

  • The importance of preserving native plant species
  • Innovative digital tools for wildlife monitoring and data collection
  • The role of youth in conservation through citizen science
