Every emoji has a story, and on July 17th, the vibrant campus of Sri Manakula Vinayagar Engineering College (SMVEC) came alive with smiles, laughter, and a rainbow of digital expressions as we celebrated World Emoji Day 2025.
A Grand Honor
The celebration began with a heartfelt welcome ceremony. The corridors were adorned with student-made crafts, including a portrait of Mr. Krishnan made entirely from recycled materials — a tribute to his eco-conscious approach to art education.
Emoji Sculpt Contest Begins – A Fusion of Creativity
The spotlight then shifted to one of the most eagerly awaited and artistically immersive events of the celebration — the Emoji Sculpt Contest. Held at Good Vibe, SMVEC’s vibrant creative studio space, the atmosphere transformed into a living canvas of inspiration and hands-on expression.
As students entered the space, they were greeted not just by tables filled with sculpting materials, but by a palpable energy — a blend of quiet concentration, whispered brainstorming, and spontaneous bursts of laughter. The air was filled with the distinct earthy aroma of fresh clay, setting the tone for a back-to-basics celebration of human expression through touch, texture, and form.
Each workstation was a story in the making — a wide smile being shaped here, a furrowed brow molded there, and in the corner, a highly detailed emoji mid-explosion slowly taking form. As onlookers moved through the room, they were drawn into the creative process — witnessing how something as simple and digital as an emoji could be transformed into a tactile, emotive piece of art.
More than just a contest, this event became a celebration of the artist’s hands, of textures speaking where words could not. In an age dominated by screens, this was art — raw, physical, and deeply human.

Some students sculpted with humor, others with emotion, and a few even created entirely new emojis to express unique feelings never seen on a keyboard.
Creativity Meets Critique – External Judge Selects Top 5 Emoji Sculptures
As the sculpting tools were set down and the final touches completed, anticipation filled the room. It was time for the most awaited moment of the contest — the evaluation of the top entries.
With years of experience in visual art, sculpture design, and creative education, the judge brought a critical eye and an artistic sensibility that elevated the contest to a professional standard. Walking through each station with focused attention, they examined the works based on a clear set of criteria:

Prize Distribution Ceremony Celebrates Creative Excellence

The Top 5 prize winners, along with two special mentions, were awarded mementos and gift hampers.
