A Grand Welcome to the New Beginnings
Sri Manakula Vinayagar Engineering College hosted the B.Tech First Year Induction Day 2026 on 2 September 2026, welcoming the newly admitted first-year engineering students into the SMVEC family. The programme marked the beginning of an exciting academic journey filled with opportunities, learning, innovation and personal growth.
Lighting of the Kuthuvilakku
The programme commenced with the auspicious Lighting of the Kuthuvilakku, marking the ceremonial beginning of the B.Tech First Year Induction Day. The traditional lighting ceremony set a meaningful and positive tone for the day’s celebrations.
Welcome Dance
The Welcome Dance added colour and energy to the inauguration, warmly welcoming the newly inducted students and dignitaries. The vibrant performance created a joyful atmosphere and marked the beginning of the students’ new journey at SMVEC.
Thamizh Thai Vaazhthu & SMVEC Anthem
The ceremony continued with the Thamizh Thai Vaazhthu, honouring Tamil language and heritage. This was followed by the SMVEC Anthem, bringing the gathering together in a spirit of pride and unity as the new students began their journey at SMVEC.
Welcome Address & Annual Report
Dr. V.S.K. Venkatachalapathy, Director cum Principal, delivered the Welcome Address and Annual Report, extending a warm welcome to the Chief Guest, along with the distinguished dignitaries, management, faculty members and newly inducted students. He highlighted SMVEC’s 28-year journey, achievements, academic growth, infrastructure, research, innovation and industry collaborations, while emphasising the institution’s commitment to nurturing skilled professionals, leaders and innovators.
Honouring the Dignitaries
The distinguished dignitaries and academic leaders were honoured during the ceremony. Their presence added significance to the occasion and reflected the institution’s strong leadership and commitment to excellence in education.
Placement Report
Dr. N.S.N. Cailassame, Dean – Placement, presented the Placement Report, highlighting the importance of starting career preparation from the first year. He emphasised academic performance, communication skills, technical skills, internships and projects as key factors for placement success. He also highlighted the college’s industry and alumni interactions and training initiatives, encouraging students to continuously develop their skills and prepare for future opportunities.
Introducing the SMVEC Student App
Students were introduced to the SMVEC Student App through a dedicated video presentation. The initiative showcased the institution’s efforts towards providing students with convenient access to academic and campus-related services through digital technology.
Celebrating Student Achievers
The programme also featured an Award for Achievers, recognising and celebrating students for their accomplishments. The felicitation served as an inspiration for the new batch to pursue excellence in academics, co-curricular activities and other areas of achievement.
Address by MVIT Principal
Dr. S. Malarkkan, Principal, MVIT, addressed the gathering and warmly welcomed the newly admitted students and their parents. He highlighted the importance of strong fundamentals, skill development and active participation in academic and co-curricular activities. He encouraged students to make full use of the facilities and opportunities at SMVEC and wished them a bright and successful future. He also emphasised the importance of continuous learning and adapting to industry requirements. His encouraging words inspired the students to confidently begin their academic journey at SMVEC.
Felicitation Address by Joint Secretary, SMVET
Architect S. Velayudham, Joint Secretary, SMVET, delivered the felicitation address and warmly welcomed the newly inducted students. He encouraged them to explore their interests, strengthen their technical skills, embrace emerging technologies such as AI, and actively participate in projects, competitions and internships. He emphasised that beyond a degree, students should develop confidence, character, communication and leadership qualities. He urged them to make the most of their four years at SMVEC and emerge as more capable, responsible and confident individuals.
Felicitation Address by Pro-Chancellor, Takshashila University
Dr. Nila Priyadharshini, Pro-Chancellor, Takshashila University, delivered an inspiring felicitation address, warmly welcoming the first-year students and sharing valuable guidance for their college journey. She encouraged students to “say yes” to opportunities, actively participate in presentations, competitions, internships and extracurricular activities, and build confidence through continuous practice. She emphasised the importance of developing positive habits, maintaining a growth mindset and learning something new every day. Her message motivated students to embrace challenges, step out of their comfort zones and make the most of their four years at SMVEC.
Felicitation Address by Treasurer, SMVET
Shri. D. Rajarajan, Treasurer, SMVET, delivered an insightful felicitation address, encouraging students to focus on skills, projects and practical learning alongside academics. He emphasised the importance of strong fundamentals, continuous learning and using AI to enhance their capabilities. He urged students to make meaningful use of every semester, build their resumes through experiences, and actively participate in events and activities. He encouraged them to enjoy their college life, create lasting memories and, after four years, have “something to show, not something to say.”
Presidential Address
Shri. M. Dhanasekaran, Chancellor, Takshashila University and Chairman & Managing Director, SMVET, delivered the Presidential Address, warmly welcoming the students and parents. He highlighted the institution’s academic excellence, infrastructure, innovation initiatives and commitment to student development. He encouraged students to make the most of the opportunities available, develop practical skills and stay curious about emerging technologies. He also emphasised the importance of innovation, cybersecurity and continuous learning in today’s rapidly changing world. His address motivated students to actively explore, create and build meaningful experiences throughout their college journey.
Chief Guest Address
The Chief Guest, Shri. Deepak Krishnamoorthy, Cyber Security Business Partner, APAC, TCS, delivered an inspiring address, highlighting the importance of fundamentals, discipline, creativity and continuous learning. He encouraged students to embrace AI, Cyber Security and emerging technologies while developing practical skills and problem-solving abilities. He motivated them to take on challenges, work hard and make the most of their opportunities at SMVEC. He also urged students to step out of their comfort zones and approach every challenge as an opportunity to learn. His valuable insights inspired the students to pursue excellence and build a successful future.
Vote of Thanks
The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr. S. Jayakumar, Controller of Examinations, who expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, management, faculty members, parents and students for their presence and support. He appreciated everyone’s contribution to the successful conduct of the induction programme and encouraged students to continuously upgrade their skills and strive for excellence.
National Anthem
The programme concluded with the National Anthem, rendered with pride and respect by all the dignitaries, faculty members, parents and students. It marked a dignified and patriotic conclusion to the induction ceremony.
Idea Lab Visit
As part of the induction programme, parents and students visited the Idea Lab to explore the college’s innovation and prototyping facilities. The visit gave them an insight into the various opportunities available for creativity, innovation and hands-on learning.
