
SMVEC, proudly inaugurated its Research and Development (R&D) Lab followed by an Awareness Session on Cyber Security on 11th October 2025 at 10:00 AM.
The R&D Lab Inauguration and Awareness Session on Cyber Security at SMVEC marked an inspiring milestone in advancing research and promoting digital awareness among students and faculty.
The inauguration commenced with a ribbon-cutting ceremony graced by distinguished chief guests:
- Mr. Suprakash Guha, AVP of Corporate Quality and Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at Lumina Datamatics
- Mr. Gowdhaman Jothilingam, Global CISO and Head of Information Technology at LatentView Analytics
- Mr. Sathish Ashwin, Head of Information Security at Gain Credit
- Mr. A. Karthi, National Cyber Security Research & Development Centre, National Cyber Security Standards (NCSS)
Their presence added immense value to the occasion, symbolizing the bridge between academic learning and real-world cybersecurity practices.

Awareness Session on Cyber Security
- Securing Remote Learning Environments

Mr. Suprakash Guha, AVP of Corporate Quality and Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at Lumina Datamatics, delivered an enlightening session on “The Future of Learning: Securing Remote Classrooms, Hybrid Labs, and Virtual Internships.”

He emphasized the increasing importance of implementing strong cybersecurity frameworks to safeguard digital classrooms and virtual learning spaces, ensuring that the future of education remains secure and resilient.
- Balancing AI Innovation with Security

Mr. Sathish Ashwin, Head of Information Security at Gain Credit, addressed the topic “Artificial Intelligence in Education: Balancing Innovation with Security.”

He explored how Artificial Intelligence is transforming modern education through intelligent tools, predictive analytics, and adaptive learning systems. However, he also cautioned that these innovations bring new risks related to data misuse and algorithmic bias. Mr. Sathish urged the audience to embrace AI responsibly by ensuring that innovation is always guided by strong ethical standards, privacy safeguards, and cybersecurity protocols.
Interactive Q&A Session with Students

Following the expert talks, an interactive Q&A session was conducted, providing students with the opportunity to clarify their doubts and gain deeper insights into the various aspects of cyber security.
Students enthusiastically participated, raising thoughtful questions on topics such as securing online learning platforms, managing digital identities, protecting personal data, and the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence in education. The speakers patiently addressed each query, offering practical tips and real-world examples to help students understand how cyber safety can be applied in everyday digital activities.
